– If you care to know –
Who is this?
My name is Michel Ngilen. I was born and raised in the Midwest and am currently residing in Des Moines, Iowa. I am number 4 of 8 children. I am the first of them to actually graduate college and according to some, I am my mother’s favorite.
Education and employment?
I double majored in Graphic design and Fine art because as a child, I was told that I was good at it. If I had the opportunity to do it over, I would study to be a marine biologist or something else scientific in nature. I’d like to actually make a difference in the world and with a biology background, there would have been many more doors opened to accomplish that. I have also considered Architecture but a high level of math would be involved. I don’t do well with math.
Currently I am a Package designer. That’s just a fancy title for a guy who makes binders, folders and boxes out of cartonstock. It’s not exactly what I studied but by golly I enjoy it quite a bit. Isn’t that what it’s all about? Having fun and making money while doing it.
I was raised Catholic but early in my college career I renounced it. I guess I would consider myself Christian at this time even though I still question my belief. There are many things I question when it comes to religion. One of them is the belief that the Bible is an infallible book about God and all of his/her wonderful/catastrophic deeds in the world. The idea that anything is without error does not bode well with my ideas of reality. Anything written by human hands (inspired by God or not) is flawed. Free will can be a blessing and a curse when it comes to the honest truth.
Oh and another thing. Science and Religion can shake hands. It doesn’t always have to be one or the other. If you feel that it’s wrong for me to think that way, well… We are all sinners. I’m no different.
I care not.
I thoroughly enjoy playing video/computer games as well as collecting game memorabilia. You could almost call it an obsession. I won’t get into that because from most of my blog, you can probably tell.
I am by no means a wine connoisseur but I like to try out new wines when I am able. I love port wines but of the standard wines, I prefer the reds over whites and currently my favorite is in the Merlot category. It’s a German wine from the Schlossadler Winery properly called… Merlot.
I enjoy cycling. I’ve been on RAGBRAI in 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2007.
I love taking pictures and would love to take formal photography classes. Perhaps someday I’ll be able to don the title of amateur photographer.
Decision to blog?
Basically this is why.
